We gotta have a few rules! If you have any questions please email Catnip, chapterbytes at gmail dot com.

  1. Each chapter will be given in order of sign up via email. If you have a preference to be placed toward the end of the book I will try to put you there in advance, but I make no promises as to who will have the last chapter.
  2. The Editor aka Catnip reserves the right to create the beginning of the story, as well edit any submissions for spelling, grammar, clarity, and composition.
  3. If any submission is deemed malicious and is intended to in any way hurt or destroy the final product, the Editor reserves the right to not publish said submission and re-issue the chapter to another author.
  4. Each author, in turn, must submit a minimum of 300 words. I am not going to set a maximum, however, let’s leave a little storyline for the rest of us!
  5. Each author is responsible for reading (at the bare minimum 2 chapters prior and skimming the rest) the previous chapters in order to keep the continuity of the story intact. New characters may be created at any time given they further the storyline.
  6. The editor reserves the right to attempt to market the book to publishers at the end. By submitting your part of the story you agree to allow it’s hard copy publication at any future date. (But I make no promises as to getting it published!) The main goal of this project is to have a fun writing exercise.
  7. Potential authors must provide a valid email address, and preferably a blog or other website address so a sample of your writing can be assessed.
  8. Once you are on the schedule you will be notified when the most recent post is up, and it’s your turn. You will then have 14 days to provide the Editor with your submission. If you do not respond to emails within that time period you will be dropped from the schedule and we will move on to the next author. Reasonable and timely requests for an extension will be taken into consideration on a case by case basis, or you can request to be rescheduled for a later date.
  9. All authors who have a blog or other personal website may publish only your own portion of the book on the same day or after it is published on ChapterBytes but not prior. Cross posting is highly encouraged but if you choose to do so, the post MUST include a linkback for ChapterBytes. Creating a buzz about ChapterBytes is most welcome. A ChapterBytes button will be provided to all authors who complete a chapter as soon as it is published.
  10. All authors will receive a byline on their post, as well as a linkback to their blog if available, and will be listed in the Authors section of the ChapterBytes website. Aliases are accepted, (especially since the Editor has one.) All available blogs will also be listed in the Blogroll. ChapterBytes would appreciate blogroll reciprocity.
  11. This blog is meant to be fun, let’s keep it that way!!
